Hermanus Whale Festival
The Hermanus Whale Festival is conducted every year to celebrate southern right whales’ return of Southern Africa coastal waters. It is conducted in the month of September every year. Several types of activities and events are organized to make people more and more aware of the importance of protecting the whales and marine wildlife.
Hermanus is a widely renowned whale watching destination in the world. The southern right whales start travelling to the warmer South African coast from ice cold Antarctica to in the month of June. They stay in South African coast till early December every year. During this period, the coastal waters are full of giant mammals that focus on mating, calving and nurturing the young whales. As a whale watching tourist, you can enjoy breathtaking displays of majestic water acrobatics and sheer power within a striking distance.
The Hermanus Whale Watching Festival lasts for three days. This eco-marine festival attracts people from all around the world including children. Several types of activities are organized as a part of this festival and they include whale watching on boat, whale watching from land, orchid shows, street parades, arts and craft exhibitions and sales, whales and wheels classic car shows and many more.
