Land-Based Whale Watching in Hermanus
The Hermanus Cliff Path runs 12 km along Walker Bay — and Southern Right Whales regularly come remarkably close to the rocks.
Best Cliff Path viewpoints
- Gearings Point — central, easy access, classic whale views
- Sievers Punt — deep water close to the cliffs; whales often rest here
- Kraalrots — quieter, often used by mother-and-calf pairs
- Grotto Beach end — wider views across Walker Bay
The Whale Crier
Hermanus is the only town in the world with an official Whale Crier — who walks the Cliff Path during season, blowing a kelp horn in coded patterns to announce where whales have been spotted.
