Section 1

Scenic Drive From Cape Town to Hermanus

The most beautiful way to reach Hermanus is via Gordon's Bay, Sir Lowry's Pass and Clarence Drive (R44). Clarence Drive has repeatedly been recognised as one of South Africa's — and the world's — most spectacular coastal roads, hugging the cliffs between False Bay and Walker Bay with whale-spotting pull-offs the entire way.

What To See & Do

Our Recommendation

Leave Cape Town by mid-morning and plan two stops: an early lunch at The Grille Shack in Gordon's Bay, then Stony Point penguin colony in Betty's Bay before continuing into Hermanus.

It is split into three official wards and is only 10–25 minutes from Hermanus.
